RIP David Bowie [11 Jan 2016]

What can we say David Bowie has left us, and the world is a poorer place for it.

RIP Dick McBride [28 Aug 2012]

It is with great sadness that I am posting this message. Dick McBride who we wrote, recorded and performed with in the Last Beat : Dick McBride With Celluloid, passed away last night. Our thoughts are with his family and close friends.
It was amazing to have worked with such a brilliant and emotive poet. To quote Dick "Dick McBride has lived long enough to realise he is no longer young but young enough to know he will never be truly old. Rather than the Last Beat Poet, he prefers to be known as the only maverick poet."

Munch Children in Need Benefit Concert 1995 [22 Nov 2010]

Here is some video footage of Ian and Matthew from Celluloid's band Munch from an earlier life.
Also on the Bill were Blessed Ethel and Box.Jon Chinn, Ian (Ezer) Jenkins, Matthew Devenish, Usama Dafaalla performed wearing nothing but tights, bodypaint and Halloween feely boppers! Excerpts of tracks, Bird in The Hand, Friction, What Have You Got That I Want and Gaping Hole. This is the only surviving footage of the band on stage. At least 5 years ahead of their time - might as well have been 5 years behind! It still looks mad after all these years!

Is There Anybody Out There? [30 Dec 2008]

Versatile and Creative Guitarist preferably multi-instrumentalist wanted by alternative writing/production group Celluloid,

We have good songs, good contacts, lots of experience
You need to be someone who is creative, talented, driven, with a good understanding of chords, space, fx, dynamics and tension.
Also you must not be frightened to play one note if that is what the music requires, but at the same time can summon up a lateral approach to writing.
Own gear and transport vital.

Our material is expansive, diverse, empty and dense.
Gigs, writing, recording, albums, touring experience, backing vocals an advantage.

Male or female (or both) age, shape, length of hair, size of buttocks unimportant
cinematic, electronica, post-rock, bowie, massive attack , underworld,
bunnymen, joy division.

We have an album complete and pressed and ready to go on our own label Madswan. You would have material to learn, but more importantly we are also interested in what you can also add to the old and bring to the new too!

We are waiting to finish the lineup before we start pushing the material to agents, and we are entirely self contained as far as recording and production is concerned.
We have already gigged the material and just added a keyboard player to the lineup.

Blueprints Review in Musician Magazine [14 Dec 2008]

Another great review has just been posted for the debut album by Celluloid:

The Production team of Matthew Devenish and Ezer Jenkins arise to release a work of introspection and dark hues founded on extraordinary writing and masterful engineering.

Shades of late 70's Peter Gabriel find a home with the experimental fringes of Joy Division to provide a bleak but fascinating world, laced with tinkling highs and disconcerting quietness.

Brave and mind-altering the duo have already been aired on Radio 3's Late Junction and regional BBC radio, and are sure to continue garnering attention for such exploratory material.

Standout track: Fear of Flying for its Banshees' step-up-to-the-plate guitar and illustrative madness on the edge.
